38 miles are complete! On the morning of Sunday, February 1st I
embarked on a run journey that gave me plenty of time (6+ hrs) to
reflect on the sacrifices military and their families have made to for
our country. Toeing the start line with me that morning was Gabriela,
whose father was killed in action in Afghanistan. Gabriela and I met
back in 2008 when I started Got Your Back Network, seeing a need to
support widows and children who were reeling in the wake of their
spouse/parent making the ultimate sacrifice. My goal was to create a
network of these military families, bring them together to share
positive experiences, and put smiles on their faces once more 🙂 As
we say.. we got your back!

Throughout the 38 miles on Sunday, military service members, friends
and family came together in support of this journey along the
beautiful shores of the Potomac River. The run took me down to Mt.
Vernon, up to Theodore Roosevelt Island and through the cobblestone
streets of Old Town Alexandria. It was a fitting setting by our
Nation’s Capitol and passing by reminders of two of our greatest
Presidents of how we can never take life and our freedoms for granted.

The birthday run began out of inspiration from Mike Rouse (a strong
military supporter) in San Diego on February 5, 2012, when I turned 35
on a sunny Super Bowl Sunday, and decided to run from my house to the
hospital (where I was delivering babies that night)- a distance of 35
miles. I wanted to do something mentally and physically challenging
each year that would in turn help motivate others to give just a small
amount to support the military widows and children who I care so much
about.

So on this occasion of my 38th birthday, I ask you to please give $38
to Got Your Back Network in support of families of fallen military.
Through your contributions, children and surviving spouses can attend
educational summer camps, professional sporting events, and other
healing experiences together.

I ran the miles on Sunday and so far we have raised $6700. Please
help me get to $10,000 by my birthday, February 5. It would be the
best birthday present and mean the world to these children.

Why? They deserve all the support we can give. Please help by donating
